Funeral services for Blanche Young, 88, of Silsbee, were at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Farmer Funeral Home. A graveside committal followed at 2:00 p.m. at Asbury Cemetery in Center. Visitation began at 5:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Young passed away Wednesday morning, April 30, 2014 after a lengthy illness at Regency Village in League City, TX. Blanche was born December 23, 1925 in Center to Ernest Samford and Cloia Bush Samford. She was raised in Center, and later moved to Galveston, married and had 3 children. In 1960, she, her husband and children moved to Silsbee where she resided much of her life. She had a love of gardening, flowers and the outdoors. Blanche spent many long hours cultivating her vegetable garden, cooking and canning for family and friends. Mrs. Young is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Young; son, James Buddy Thomas; and brother, Fred Samford. She is survived by her son, Charles B. Thomas of League City, TX; daughter, Eddie Darlene Wells of Atlanta, GA; halfsister, Mary Lee Tillman of Long Beach, MS; nieces, Hilda Figueroa of Silsbee, Janis Jones of Lumberton and Carrie Schoen of Gulf Shores, AL; and nephews, Freddie Samford of Silsbee and James Tillman of Houston.
