Clayton Bass

Clayton Gene “Pinto” Bass, 63, of Silsbee died Saturday, January 17, 2015. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2015 at New Hope Baptist Church in Silsbee under the direction of Robinson’s Funeral Home, also in Silsbee. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.Wednesday, January 28 at the church. A native and lifelong resident of Silsbee, he was a retired cross country truck driver. Survivors include his wife, Cassandra W. Bass of Silsbee; children, Calechiea Scruggs and Paul Bass, both of Houston, Virgil Bass and Clifton Bass, both of Jasper and Billy Boulwen, Tonya Davis, Elbert Bass, Joshua Bass, Jacoby Bass, Shasta Bass and Harley Bass, all of Silsbee; sisters, Janet Jones of Pleasure Island, and Mary Ann Smith and Nedra Drumgo, both of Houston; brother, Estus Hitchens of Spurger; and 14 grandchildren.

C.W. Smith, 65, of Spurger, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at his home. Funeral service was Monday, January 19 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial following in Franks Branch Cemetery in Fred. He was a United StatesMarine veteran, crane operator for Anthony Crane and was retired from Mead Westvaco in Evadale. Survivors include his sons, Chad Wayne Smith and Josh Spurlock, both of Silsbee; sisters, Sally Chance of Fred, Beckie Fogleman of Colfax, Louisiana andAnnie Elliott of Fred; and four grandchildren.

Edna Sherman

Edna “Betty” Elizabeth Sherman, 89, of Lumberton, died Saturday, January 10, 2015. Anative of Brownsville, she worked forWestern Union for many years and had lived in Lumberton 27 years. Survivors include sons, Ben Sherman and wife Gina, Jimmy Sherman and wife Sue and Jim Bob Sherman Jr. and wife Maxine; daughter, Linda Gernentz; and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Margaret Tatom

Margaret LaFay Tatom, 79, of Silsbee, died Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Pine Arbor Healthcare Center in Silsbee. Funeral service was Monday, January 12 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial following in Plainview Cemetery in Pineland. Anative of Geneva, she was a lifelong resident of Silsbee. Survivors include her sons, Jerry Tatom and wife Gay of Harrison,Arkansas, and Keith Tatom, Christopher Tatomand wife Gina and Kenneth Tatom, all of Silsbee; sister, Jeanette Williams of Jasper; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Douglas Shearer

Douglas A. Shearer, 76, of Lumberton, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 15 at Journey Community Church under the direction of Lumberton Family Funeral Home. A native of Chicago, Illinois, he was a United States Air Force veteran. He worked two years in the Border Patrol, six years for U.S. Customs and the rest of his working career was in the hardware sales business. Survivors include his wife of 45 plus years, Aurora Shearer of Lumberton; daughters, Denine Parker and husband Kurt of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Denise Silva, Debbie Newbill and Cynthia Thompson of the Houston area; sons, Douglas Shearer Jr. and David Shearer and wife Amy of Mandeville, Louisiana; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Robert Duke Sr.

Robert Walker Duke Sr., 86, of Lumberton, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2015 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Funeral service was Tuesday, January 6 at Broussard’s Mortuary in Silsbee with burial following in Knupple Cemetery, also in Silsbee. A native of Voth, Robert was a United States Navy veteran. He was a retired welder and member of First Baptist Church of Loeb. Survivors include his children, Robert W. Duke Jr., Retha W. Duke and Darin W. Duke, all of Lumberton; brother, Harry Duke and wife Linda of Lumberton; sister, Doris Babineaux and husband Ralph of Beaumont; and eight grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren.
