Powell to play at Panalo College

Sometimes things do not work out like you hope and plan, but those who have true character not only survive but prevail. Those words are certainly true for Silsbee pitcher Tyler Powell who signed a letter of intent on Tuesday to attend Panola College.

Tigers sting Caldwell in regional semis

Propelled by a dominating performance at the plate, the Silsbee Tigers took no prisoners in its quest for another state tournament appearance. Now with Silsbee up against a team that defeated Carthage in the regional quarterfinals, Caldwell was faced with the dubious task of dethroning the reigning Region III champion from 2013.

Eleven members of KHS baseball team honored as all district players

The young Kountze Lions baseball team dominated the selections for the District 25-2A baseball all district team. Ethan Franklin, a junior who is both an outstanding pitcher and an impressive player at the plate was the District MVP.

SHS All District Softball Players

The Silsbee Lady Tigers had two players, Katlin Kerl and Bailey Root, named to the first team of the 21-3A all district softball team. Kerl, a junior, is the Tigers catcher and Root, a sophomore, is the teams designated hitter. The squad also had two girls on the second unit of the all district squad. Lauren Gilbert, a junior, was an all district infielder. Kaitlyn Hicks, a sophomore, was a second unit all district outfielder.

KHS Lions season ends with close loss to Luling

The Kountze Lions dropped a best of three playoff series to Luling on Friday and Saturday that knocked the Lions out of the playoffs. Kountze dropped the first game by an 8-5 score. This game was disappointing because the Lions led the contest 4-3 as the two teams entered the final inning of play.

Tigers shut out West Columbia 2-1 and 7-0

Silsbee defeated West Columbia to become area champions and advance to the regional quarterfinals this weekend. The Roughnecks fromWest Columbia came into the game fresh off a 25-0 victory over Houston Scarborough in the first round. They entered the area round with a batting average of over .300.

KHS Lions team wins state title

The Kountze Lions celebrated their first ever state championship in tennis this week when the team of Drew Anderson and Landry Linn won the men’s doubles title at the state meet in Austin. The icing on the cake was that the mixed doubles team of Madison Read and Blake Best placed third.

Tigers drop Shepherd 4-1 Thursday; SHS to play West Columbia best of 3

The stage was big. Former pitching great Nolan Ryan, Astros manager Bo Porter and scouts from five and six professional teams were present to see the final high school game of Shepherd’s Tyler Kolek. The 6-5, 250-pound ace was throwing bullets. He struck out 10, walked one and allowed four hits. He hit one batter and had two get on with errors.

Rebels place high at regional track meet

Athletes that are still participating in high school track this past week are very special athletes. They have made it through an entire season bettering their times, distances and heights. They have risen past district and area meets, and have qualified for regional’s just a single step from the state track meet.
