KHS Lions season ends with close loss to Luling

The Kountze Lions dropped a best of three playoff series to Luling on Friday and Saturday that knocked the Lions out of the playoffs. Kountze dropped the first game by an 8-5 score. This game was disappointing because the Lions led the contest 4-3 as the two teams entered the final inning of play.

Tigers shut out West Columbia 2-1 and 7-0

Silsbee defeated West Columbia to become area champions and advance to the regional quarterfinals this weekend. The Roughnecks fromWest Columbia came into the game fresh off a 25-0 victory over Houston Scarborough in the first round. They entered the area round with a batting average of over .300.

KHS Lions team wins state title

The Kountze Lions celebrated their first ever state championship in tennis this week when the team of Drew Anderson and Landry Linn won the men’s doubles title at the state meet in Austin. The icing on the cake was that the mixed doubles team of Madison Read and Blake Best placed third.

Tigers drop Shepherd 4-1 Thursday; SHS to play West Columbia best of 3

The stage was big. Former pitching great Nolan Ryan, Astros manager Bo Porter and scouts from five and six professional teams were present to see the final high school game of Shepherd’s Tyler Kolek. The 6-5, 250-pound ace was throwing bullets. He struck out 10, walked one and allowed four hits. He hit one batter and had two get on with errors.

Rebels place high at regional track meet

Athletes that are still participating in high school track this past week are very special athletes. They have made it through an entire season bettering their times, distances and heights. They have risen past district and area meets, and have qualified for regional’s just a single step from the state track meet.

Lady Tigers unable to match up with powerful Hargrave.

The season came to an end for the Silsbee Lady Tigers, falling to Huffman-Hargrave in two straight games in a best-of-3 bidistrict series. Silsbee (16-10) couldn’t overcome the Lady Falcons bats in back-to-back shutouts. The two teams faced off in the first game on Friday at Hargrave High School where the Lady Falcons proved to be too much in a 12-0 shutout in five innings.

Silsbee Tigers Defeat WO-S 4-1

Two big things happened during the Tigers final regular season game of the year on Friday evening. First, Tyler Powell, who has not started a game for Silsbee since the second game of the year, took the mound and pitched two hitless innings. He walked two and struck out three.

After seven years of running sprints competitively, Silsbee sprinter Chanissey Fowler will say that she would be lying if she still doesn’t get nervous. Stretching in her lane, focusing down the path to the finish line, and getting down on the starting blocks – the butterflies take over.

Tigers split pair of games with Buna and Bridge City but stay in second

After a huge win against Buna on Tuesday, the Tigers suffered a disappointing 5-0 loss to the District 21-3Aleading Bridge City Cardinals on Friday. Silsbee fell behind in this game 3-0 in the second inning and then gave up two in the sixth.
