Tigers off to 3-0 start in basketball

The Silsbee Tigers upped their record to 3-0 with a 89-55 win over Port Niches Groves in their only game last week. Bruce Newton led the way in this game with 20 points. The Tigers had four players finish this game in double figures. In addition to Newton’s 20 points,MichaelMcCain hit for 12, Travois Grubbs added 11, and Luke Tanton finished with 10.

KHS girls run record to 2-0

The Kountze Lady Lions ran their record to 2-0 with a narrow 62-61 win over Goodrich on Nov. 18. The Lions took a big lead in the first quarter at 17-7 and then saw Goodrich whittle away at it.

Tigers open season with pair of wins

An extremely young Silsbee Tiger boys basketball squad opened their season Wednesday against Lumberton and came away with a 98-38 victory. Coach Joe Sigler started three sophomores in the game and also had a freshman who made a major contribution.

Evadale falls short against Timpson

The Evadale Rebels earned the right to enter the Texas high school football playoffs as the number three team in their district and to face off against the Timpson Bears in the bidistrict round. The two teams met in Hemphill in game that saw the Bears take a huge halftime lead only to see the Rebels storm back in the second half but fall 45-39.

Season ends for Tigers in first round

Henderson took a commanding first half lead en route to a 48-22 victory over Silsbee on Friday in Lufkin in a class 4A-DI bidistrict game. Henderson (9-2) advances to face West Columbia in the DI area round of the 4A playoffs.

KHS drops Anahuac to earn spot in play-offs

The Kountze Lions closed out regular season play with a 44-3 victory over Anahuac on Friday in Kountze. The win improved the Lions regular season record to 4-6 and their district record to 4-3 and earned them a spot in the playoffs against an unbeaten Teague squad.

Jasper bulldozes over Silsbee, 48-7

Silsbee looked to be making a game against Jasper on Friday early on, but the Bulldogs turned out to be too much for the Tigers in the final Dist. 10-4A-D1 game for both teams. Jasper kept it simple on the ground and pounded its way to over 400 yards rushing as a team to set back Silsbee 48-7 at Bulldog Stadium.

Raiders pull out victory over Vidor

The Lumberton Raiders rallied late in the fourth quarter on Friday and upended the Vidor Pirates 24-21 to claim its third victory of the season. Lumberton (3-6, 2-4 in Dist. 22-5A) drove 61 yards eating up about 6 minutes of the clock in the fourth quarter that was capped with a 1-yard score.

Tigers clinch playoff after BC win

Three big touchdown pass plays lifted the Silsbee Tigers to its third consecutive win in as many weeks, securing a playoff spot in the 4A Div. 1 playoffs. Silsbee (4-5, 3-2) staved off the lowly Bridge City Cardinals 31-14 at Tiger Stadium for senior night on Friday. The win secured the fourth place spot in Dist. 10-4A-D1 and a chance at the playoffs where the team is expected to face Dist. 9-4A-D1 champion Henderson in the first round.

Tigers move into play-off contention

The Silsbee Tigers trailed early and then rallied from behind to claim a 30-13 victory at Cleveland on Friday. This marked the first time this season that the 3-5 Tigers have managed to win two games in a row.After starting the season with a 1-5 record, the Tigers have rebounded with wins of 34-25 over Splendora and 30-13 over Cleveland.
