Last effort sinks Lions in regional finals

By Daniel Elizondo

It was a last effort jumper that looked to be a long shot from the baseline. Tatum senior KliftonWillis leaped in desperation as the clock ticked away. In less than a second, the ball bounced on the rim and in a flash, the Tatum Eagles were celebrating a victory to reach the state semifinals in Austin.

By Daniel Elizondo.

The Silsbee Tigers couldn’t find the bottom of the basket on Friday in the waning moments of a close nail-biter against West Orange-Stark in Port Arthur. The Tigers ran out of gas in the marathon game to decide the District 21-3A champions. In the end, WO-S was basking in the victory, taking a slim fourth quarter lead before earning the win 64-63 at Memorial High School.

Tigers win Bi-District round of Play-offs

The Silsbee Tigers won a bidistrict championship with a 90-57 win over Splendora on Monday evening at Lee College in Baytown. The game was played before a sparse crowd. Silsbee opened the game with a 14-3 scoring outburst and then the game changed. Silsbee seemed to lose its momentum and Splendora began to chip away at the Tigers’ lead. Fouls and whistles played a role as Splendora began to mount a comeback. The Wildcats were hitting outside shots and working the ball into the lane for relatively easy baskets.
