Camera club has a different view

Working at a newspaper gives one the ability to meet all walks of life and to experience life, not only by writing, but by photographs.

I had the chance to meet a great group of ladies recently that have taken photography as a hobby here in Silsbee.

Today, we feature the Camera Club of Silsbee in our Senior Section. Though this club is not solely for seniors, we felt it could be a good hobby for seniors to take in to help pass the time during retirement or just in their spare time.

I, not considering myself as a senior of course, was intrigued by the club and the broad topics of discussion these ladies had involving photography and cameras.

What most don’t know is that photography can go beyond the expensive SLR cameras with their high tech features. Even the simplest point and shoots or even cell phone photography, particularly iPhone, that has taken a life of its own.

People that have taken to photography or just have some interest in it should consider looking into this club.

Photography is more than just words. It speaks for itself and tells a story like no other story ever told.

Like I told the ladies, working for a weekly newspaper, we will wear many hats, and being a photographer is one of them.

We photograph some of the saddest events and instances to the most amazing times ever experienced by any human being.

It can be as simple as a baseball player catching a ball to a kid playing in the water on a hot summer day.

I have a grown interest in the newest craze of iphoneography. Simple photos on your iPhone using the latest apps to render your subjects or post them online.

The most popular is Instagram, which I am a member. Though I started Instagram a few years ago, I have slacked off and now have a hankering of starting up again, thanks to the Camera Club giving me back my spark.

And of course the new gadget that attaches to my iPhone that was given to me by my soon-to-be niece makes it that much sweeter.

In this digital age we live in, photos with iPhones make picture taking a whole new ball game.

There are so many options and ways to take photos today, the simplest things in life will be a story told forever.

Take the time and read about the Camera Club of Silsbee. If you have an interest in cameras, think about joining. And don’t worry, you don’t have to be a senior to join.
