WILLIAM PRESSLEY, JR.

“BILL”

William “Bill” Pressley, Jr. died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 after a brave battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family as he began his journey to be with the Lord.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 3 at the Kirbyville United Methodist Church with burial at Kirbyville Cemetery under the direction of Adams E.E. Stringer Funeral Home.

Born August 20, 1926 in Montgomery, Alabama, Bill and his family founded their home in Kirbyville in 1959 where he served the local community as an insurance professional.  Everyone in the small town knew and loved Bill.  He never lacked a smile or a word of encouragement.

He served Kirbyville’s residents for more than 50 years and was selected Citizen of the Year in 2002. Bill was a longtime member of Kirbyville United Methodist Church, a past President of the Texas Legal Reserve Officials Association, a lifetime member of the American Legion, a Master Mason, and a board member of the Jasper County Appraisal District.  He was a dedicated servant to the VFW, Lions Club and Eastern Star.  But most of all, Bill loved and enjoyed his time spent with family and friends.

He also served his country in WWII in the U.S. Navy and attended Auburn University; however, Bill was a diehard University of Texas fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary, in 2000.

Survivors include his daughters, Nancy Lackey and husband Roy of Richmond and Helen Davis and husband Steve of Birmingham, Alabama; son, Mike Pressley and wife Kathy of Garland; grandchildren, Staci Todd and husband James of Missouri City, Mark Lackey and wife Shelly of Houston, Lori Thompson and husband Barry of McKinney, Julie Harper and husband Tony of The Colony, Eric Davis and wife Morgan of London, UK and Emily Davis and fiancĂ© Clayton Campbell, both of Corpus Christi; and great-grandchildren,  Nicholas Todd, David Todd, Allison Todd, Matthew Lackey and Jonathan Lackey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be sent to either Kirbyville United Methodist Church, Kirbyville or to M.D. Anderson, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030 for the special love and exceptional care provided to Bill in his last days.

Hook’em horns, Bill.  Your ability to make friends and tell stories will be missed by all.
