CHARLANE BESS
Charlane Bess, 59, of Deer Park died on Monday, February 9, 2009.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 11 at Deer Park United Methodist Church.
After many years of travel as a child, she settled in the Deer Park area following her graduation from San Jacinto College with an Associate of Arts in Interior Decorating. Soon after, in 1971, she married Billy Bess and began 38 years of devotion to her husband and her family.
She was a member of Deer Park United Methodist Church for 39 years. She served her Lord Jesus Christ through her active involvement in the life of the congregation as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, a member of the Adoration Ringers bell choir and a member of many church committees.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Bess; daughters, Shawna Ramike and husband Jason and Britani Hardcastle; grandchildren, Victoria English, Haldyn Hardcastle, Lillian Ramike and Price Lewis Ramike; mother, Genevieve Jenkins; brothers and sister, Arthur Martens and wife Cathy, Arlene Heweitt and Robert Martens; and many nieces and nephews.
JAMES DEWEY COLLIER
James Dewey Collier, 82, of Buna died on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Hermann Memorial Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 13 at Adams E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Buna with private entombment at Oakbluff Memorial Park.
A native of Port Neches, he had lived in Buna five years and was a retired Bar Pilot. He was also a U.A. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his daughter, Ruby Langley and husband Ray of Buna; son, Bill and wife Carol Collier of Washington; grandsons, Chuck Langley, Daryl Langley and Doicus Langley; and seven great-grandchildren.
ROY EUBANKS
Roy Eubanks, 85, of Buna died on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Herman Memorial Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 12 at Central Baptist Church in Buna under the direction of Adams E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Buna with burial at Antioch Cemetery.
A native of Shelby County, he had lived in Buna 60 years and was a retired carpenter and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Gracie Eubanks of Buna; sons, Glenn Eubanks and wife Trenda of Fred and Danny Eubanks and wife Paula of Buna; sister, Abbie Dee Thomas of Shreveport, Louisiana; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
JOHN D. SOWDER
John D. Sowder, 65, of Kirbyville died on Tuesday, February 10, 2009.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 21 at the North Bon Ami Missionary Baptist Church.
A native of Dayton, Ohio, he was born on January 6, 1944. He moved to Kirbyville in October 2004 to be close to his family. His hobbies were working on small engines and plumbing. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races.
Survivors include his brothers, Earnest Glenn Sowder of Kirbyville; Gerald Kenneth Sowder of Louisiana and James Davis Sowder of Kirbyville; sister, Patricia Lynne Sorensen; and stepbrother, Lee Roy Ruby of Maryland.
