JOE LEE SHEFFIELD
Joe Lee Sheffield, 77, of Friendship died Monday, July 27, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, July 29 at Friendship Church under the direction of Adams E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Friendship Cemetery.
A native and lifelong resident of Friendship, he was a carpenter and mechanic most of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Sheffield of Friendship; daughter, Janet Sheffield of Newton; sons, James Roy “Buddy” Sheffield of Erin, Marvin Lee Sheffield of Newton, Joe Edward Sheffield of Friendship and John Robertson of Friendship; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
NONA MORRISON
Nona Morrison, 67, of Call died Tuesday, July 7, 2009 in Jasper.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 10 at Adams E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Trout Creek Cemetery.
A native of Huntington and longtime resident of Pasadena, she had lived in Call since 1994.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Morrison of Call; and daughter, Tracy Sims of Deer Park.

“CHOP”
A.G. “Chop” Booker, Jr., 60, of Houston died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 while doing what he loved most – fishing.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 24 at Springhill Baptist Church in Magnolia Springs with burial at Magnolia Springs Cemetery under the direction of Coleman’s Mortuary in Jasper.
Born January 2, 1949 in the Mount Union Community to A.G. Booker, Sr. and Katie Ella Holmes Booker, he attended school at the Walnut Hill School and was a member of the 1967 graduating class of West Kirbyville High School. Known for his prowess on the basketball court, he was a member of the Prairie View University League All-State basketball team.
He confessed his faith at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. B.W. Kenebrew at the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 and his service included a tour of Vietnam, receiving an honorable discharge in 1970.
Upon his return home, he lived in Port Arthur for a short time then moved to Houston. He worked for Shell Chemical and Refinery for over 28 years. He met and married Lizzie Bea Tolbert. He never met a stranger and he was a true friend.
He was preceded in death by his mother; father; second mother, Mary Lee Booker; and brother, Jefferson Martin.
Survivors include his children, Rhonda of Galveston and A.G., III and wife Jennifer of Cleveland; sisters, Betty Alexander of Pt. Arthur, Juanita and husband Eddie Ward of Beaumont, Mercury and husband Herbert Oliver of Deridder, Louisiana, Joyce and husband Godwin Turk of Mount Union and Audrey Johnson and Kathleen Williams, both of Houston; brothers, Wesley Booker of Beaumont, Robert Booker of Houston and Willie and wife Elvira Booker of Huntsville; aunt, Arvetta Holmes Booker of Mount Union; uncles, Vernon Booker of Mount Union and Milton Garfield Holmes of Houston; sister-in-law, Billie Martin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven grandchildren; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
ROSEMARY LING
Rosemary Ling, 79, of Kountze died Thursday, July 23, 2009 at CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 1 at Kingdom Hall between Kirbyville and Buna under the direction of Adams E.E. Stringer Funeral Home.
A native of Galveston and former resident of Kirbyville, she had lived in Kountze the past few years.
Survivors include her sons, David Ling of Fife, Washington and Daniel Ling, Jr. of Kountze; daughters, Melissa Johnson of Bullhead, Arizona, Rosemary Keim of Henderson, Nevada and Alice Quigley of Escondido, California; sister, Ethel Tucker of Kountze; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
HELEN O’BRIEN HOLLOWAY
Helen O’Brien Holloway, 90, of Kirbyville died Friday, July 24, 2009 at her home.
Graveside services were held Sunday, July 26 at Bean Cemetery under the direction of Adams E.E. Stringer Funeral Home.
A native of Newton, she had lived most of her life in Kirbyville.
Survivors include her son, James “Jimmy” Holloway of Kirbyville; sister-in-law, Brenda Holloway of Kirbyville; brothers, Arthur O’Brien of Kountze and Jerry O’Brien of Silsbee; sisters, Frances Wessell and Eunice Herrin, both of Kirbyville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
