Joe Peel, 80, of Devil’s Pocket passed away Monday, May 31 at Avalon Place Nursing Home in Kirbyville.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, June 2 at Adams E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Bleakwood Cemetery.

A native of Deweyville, he had lived most of his life in the Kirbyville and Buna area and was a retired logging contractor and heavy equipment operator.

Survivors include his son, Steve Peel of Trout Creek; daughter, LaWanna Curl of Kirbyville; sisters, Jewel Langley of Devil’s Pocket and Sue Davis of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lakes Area Hospice, P.O. Box 2086, Jasper, Texas 75951.

“BUCK”

L.A. “Buck” Roff, 85, of Kirbyville passed away Sunday, May 30 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 3 at Adams E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with Masonic Rites and burial at Trout Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 2 at the funeral home.

A native of Kirbyville, he had lived in Houston 50 years before returning to Kirbyville. He was a retired carpenter and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene Roff of Kirbyville; sons, Leon D. Roff of Old Salem, Richard L. Roff of Houston and William G. Roff of Magnolia; sisters, Linda Hopson of Bon Wier, Frances Dubisson of Houston, Betty Jo Takett of San Antonio and Marie Baker of Denver, Colorado; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
