The Kountze Lions continue its streak towards a playoff berth after defeating the Hardin Hornets in its District 10-2A-DI game on Friday.

Kountze (4-0, 1-0) took a 15-point lead at halftime en route to a 28-14 win over the Hardin Hornets.

Things went right for Kountze to begin the game when the kickoff went through the hands of a Hardin kick returner, only to find it recovered by the Lions on the Hornet’s 15-yard line.

After a 13-yard gain by senior Marcus Williams, Kountze was on the boards with a 2-yard pass from QB Rowdy Teel to Xavier Scott. The missed extra point left the score 6-0.

Kountze took a 12-0 lead after a 1-yard buck by Williams with 4:46 in the first quarter.

Hardin cut the Kountze lead in half 12-6 after a score with 15 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Williams adds another rushing TD to extend Kountze’s lead 18-6.

Blake Best added a 30-yard field goal with 9:44 to halftime to increase the lead 21-6.

Kountze took control in the third quarter after Teel hooked up with Darrion Harper on a 24-yard pass for a touchdown. Best added the extra point to give Kountze a 28-6 lead.

Hardin scored its final TD late in the third quarter on a short pass. The 2-point conversion was successful for the Hornets.

Kountze finished with 225 yards of total offense including 136 yards on the ground. Williams led the rushing game with 64 yards and Teel followed with 56 yards.

Teel finished with 55 yards pass, while Justin Harper finished with 45 yards and Grayland Arnold finished with 20 yards.

Darrion Harper finished with 55 yards receiving and Jamazdon Powell finished with 45 yards receiving.

Kountze will host Woodville on Friday at Lion’s Stadium. Woodville (1-3, 0-1) is coming off of a 28-6 loss to East Chambers on Friday.
