Basketball season came to an end for the Anahuac Lady Panther JV squad last night.

The girls finished the 2011 season with a 11-8 record. Here is a run down of the second half of the season.  They finished the Sabine Pass Tournament with a consolation trophy.

The first round of district was pretty tough with the girls losing to EC, Hardin, and Warren and getting their first win in District against Buna.

The second round was a different story with the girls coming out with improved defense and more knowledge of running the offense.

They defeated EC, Warren, and Buna, but were denied, by weather, a chance to redeem the loss to Deweyville.

Hardin was the only team to defeat the JV girls this season.

The team consisted of Junior Michala Lacinova, Sophomores Kenya Moore, Whitney Richey, Tori Lyons, Maria Corona, Freshman Jessica Anderson, Savanna Putman, Melissa Sustaita, Madison Mitchell, Jordan Stump, and Brittney Otey.

“These girls played hard all season and continued to improve as it went on,” coach Vardell said. “They have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.  Below is a game by game breakdown of their efforts.”Anahuac 16, EC 37; Anahuac 11, Hardin 30; Anahuac 20, Warren 39; Anahuac 24, Deweyville 27; Anahuac 34 , Buna 13; Anahuac 23, EC 18. (Stump scored nine points, Richey scored seven points, Moore and Lyons both had two points and Otey added one point.) Anahuac 19, Hardin 33; Anahuac 34 , Warren 23 (Richey – 15 points; Stump – 9 points; Moore – 6 points; Lyons and Otey 2 points each); Anahuac 38, Buna 24 (Otey 19 points; Richey – 8 points; Stump 4 points; and Moore 7 points.)
