Funeral services for Betty Jean Lackey Ellis will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 19, 2010 in the chapel of John Kramer & Son with Rev. Milton Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Alexandria Memorial Gardens.
Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Betty Jean Lackey Ellis, 69, of Lecompte, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in her residence after a lengthy illness.
Betty was born in Selma, Alabama, March 17, 1940 to Henry and Martha Lackey.
Her love of travel took her to all ends of the world from Germany to Japan and many points in between. After she and her husband George Ellis retired, they purchased a motor home and traveled throughout the United States from Florida to Alaska. Her wit, humor, wisdom, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Martha Lackey of Selma, Alabama, sister, Bernice Crampton of Selma, Alabama, her granddaughter, Amanda Warden Davis of Pitkin, Louisiana.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, George Ellis of Lecompte, Louisiana, son, Ken Warden and his wife, Kathy of Colorado Springs, Colorado, son, Henry Warden and his wife Sharon, daughter, Melissa Warden Smallwood and her husband, David all of Kountze, Texas, stepchildren, Georgette Bradley and her husband, Willie, Alice Andrews and her husband, John, Maxie Ellis and his wife, Mardale all of Pineville, Louisiana, Emily Villard and her husband, Layne, Christine Poole and her husband, Darrell all from Alexandria, Louisiana, Claire Libby and her husband, Don, of Benton, Arkansas, sister, Barbara Rosser and her husband, Frank of Tyler, Alabama, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 17 step grandchildren, and 8 step great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until time of service Friday at John Kramer & Son.
Pallbearers will be Steve Warden, Justin Smallwood, Cody Smallwood, Jeremy Laird, Darrell “D.J.” Poole, Jr., and Michael Ellis.
Flowers will be accepted or in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 33718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Hospice Compassus for their outstanding service to our loved one during her illness.
