An accident on Monday, Dec. 10 near Hooks Cemetery Loop claimed the life of one adult and injured two.

Department of Public Safety reports indicate a 2003 Pontiac passenger vehicle driven by 39 year old James Carter of Lumberton, was traveling northbound on U.S. 69 near Hooks Cemetery Loop when it veered into the southbound lane striking a 2008 Ford truck driven by Glen Cook, 78, of Lumberton.

A passenger in the Pontiac,  Kristi Michelle Haralson, 31, of Warren, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Hardin Co. Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace, TJ Hall. Carter was flown by medical helicopter to St.

Elizabeth in stable condition. Cook was transported by ambulance to Baptist hospital as a precaution, according to DPS reports.

The investigation is still in the preliminary stages, however, DPS Troopers are not ruling out that alcohol and/or prescription drugs may be contributing factors in the fatal crash.
