The Silsbee Lady Tigers notched its opening league soccer game in District 37-4A with a convincing win over Liberty in a rout.
Silsbee (5-1-3) took control in the first half of play before upending the lowly Liberty Lady Panthers 5-0 on Friday at Tiger Stadium.
Brayli Griffin and Ashley Waters each scored two goals in the win for Silsbee.
Griffin hit her first goal of the evening early in the game and added a second at the 21:50 mark of the first half. Madison Thibodeaux assisted Griffin on her second goal from 10 yards out after Liberty’s defense folded.
At the 12:45 mark in the first half, Waters scored Silsbee’s third goal on a free kick that sailed past the Liberty defense and squeeked into the top corner of the net.
Waters scored her second goal at the 36:10 mark of the second half with a middle shot from 10 yards out to give Silsbee a 4-0 lead.
Minutes later, Silsbee’s dominance was apparent after Mariah Waters tapped in a header from 5-yards out on a cross from Ashley.
Silsbee held Liberty out of the Lady Tigers’ territory and gave up only three shots on goal in the first half alone.
