Silsbee Tigers continue to romp the competition and polished off Bridge City last week to complete the season series sweep of the Cardinals.

Silsbee (22-7, 9-0 in Dist. 21-3A) maintain a 2-game lead in the league standings in front of Hardin-Jefferson and West Orange-Stark, two teams the Tigers will face to complete the regular season.

“We have to be able to play at a fast pace in this region,” Head Coach Joe Sigler said. “We are getting better defensively and defense comes from offense as well. When you are winning by large margins, then you know you are doing things right and improving.”

Silsbee will face Hardin-Jefferson at Ford Park Arena on Friday at 7:30 p.m., a team they haved defeated already on Jan. 11.

The 96-34 win over Bridge City on Tuesday, Jan. 29 clinched a playoff spot for the Tigers.

Two more wins for Silsbee will give the Tigers a district championship and a first round bye in the class 3A playoffs.

On Tuesday, Silsbee took a resounding 26-8 lead in the first quarter before erupting to a 96-34 win over the Cards.

Da’Vaugn Thomas led Silsbee with 20 points while Danti Wilson added 16 points, including two from beyond the arc.

Chris Elam and Jordan Holmes each finished with 15 points, with Holmes tacking on three 3-pointers and scoring 10 of his points in the third quarter.

Zayon Jackson finished with nine points, Jake Dobbins finished with seven points, Kendrick Scott and Nathan

Scott each finished with four points, and LaDavian Barnes, Yancy Brydson and Patrick Reed each finished with two points.

On Friday, Silsbee kept the momentum of winning in check with a non-district victory over Beaumont Legacy 102-42 at Tiger Gym.

Holmes led Silsbee with 21 points in the win including 11 in the third quarter.

Thomas finished with 20 points, Elam added 15 points and Wilson finished with 13 including 10 in the second half.

Silsbee held on to a first quarter lead 16-13 and blew the game open in the second quarter taking a 42-25 lead into halftime. Silsbee’s defense held Legacy to four third quarter points to preserve the win.

Also scoring were Jackson with nine points, Reed with six points, Barnes and Kendrick Scott each with five points, Nathan Scott and Dobbins each with three points, and Dalfred Sonnier and Eric Wallace each with one point.

“I keep reminding the players that they are in a fish bowl because of being ranked high,” added Sigler. “Not only are people watching on the court, but also off of the court. We need to present ourselves in a good manner outside of school, which will carry us on the court.”

Silsbee is currently ranked eighth in class 3A while West Orange-Stark and Hardin-Jefferson are ranked 14th and 15th respectively.

The Tigers are tentatively scheduled to take on Stephenville in Fort Worth on Feb. 16 during the bye week, if

Silsbee captures the district championship. Stephenville is ranked seventh in class 3A.
