The town of Silsbee has enormous spirit. However, come homecoming week, Silsbee rivals the biggest and best of homecoming celebrations.

Students have been preparing for homecoming long before school began and have waited patiently for this week. The excitement has now reached a high and students, parents, and community members alike are anxiously waiting for the big game.

Homecoming in Silsbee means a week of school and community activities, all leading up to the game on Friday night. Students, alumni, teachers, and community come together to make this happen and make it a week to remember.

The Silsbee High School student council has chosen the homecoming theme, “Welcome to the Jungle”. This will also be the theme of the annual homecoming parade.

The hallways of the high school are decorated to promote spirit and all of the classes are working together to raise money to help cover the cost of expenses. Studens and teachers alike have cut, pasted, painted and colored to make assure that every hallway in Silsbee High School is covered with spirit decorations.

Dress-up days are another part of homecoming week that everyone looks forward to.

Monday was “Bring out the Animal Day”, where students promoted their jungle theme by dressing in animal print.

Tuesday was “Educate the Cougars" – where students wore their favorite college print or shirt.

Wednesday is “Beat the Cougars” – students will come to school faking an injury. This promises to be a very humorous day around the campus.

Thursday students will catch a glimpse of what they will look like in 40 years as they dress up as “old folks” to promote “Retire the Cougars” day.

Friday, of course is the culmination of the entire week of dress up excitement with “How much Spirit do you have Day." Students will dress in Tiger attire, maroon and white, or anything else that promotes the Tigers.

During the five minute intervals between class changes, the “Tiger Roar” music will be played to help students carry on with the high level of excitement and anticipation.

The homecoming pep rally will begin Friday, October 5, at 12:25 p.m. in the high school gym .

The 2012-13 Homecoming Court will be announced and teachers, band members, drill team, and mascot Tiger Jim will each perform skits.

The spirit contest will take place again this year at the pep rally also. Each class will show their spirit by cheering as loud as possible at the pep rally in competition for the coveted spirit stick.

The rivalry between the junior and senior class will continue with last year's winning junior class coming in as seniors to try again to take home the prize. Word around the school is both juniors and seniors will get a run for their money.

The homecoming bonfire will take place this week also. The Tiger Band will perform along with the cheerleaders and Tigerettes. Senior princesses will have the honor of lighting the ST this year.

All of the activites taking place this week are leading up to the much anticipated homecoming game between the Silsbee Tigers and the Buna Cougars. Kick off will be Friday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m.

Following the game on Saturday, October 6 will be the homecoming parade through Silsbee. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and will also be carrying the “Welcome to the Jungle” theme. The parade will begin at Hwy. 418 and Jr. Food Mart.
