The Silsbee Tigers put on defensive clinic on Friday and nailed a win over Lumberton to claim a Dist. 37-4A win on Friday at Raider Stadium.

Silsbee (5-3-2, 1-1-1) tied the game and rode out two overtime periods before relying on goalie Corey Crysel to preserve a lead in a shootout.

The Tigers and Lumberton played the physical match for most of the second half tied 2-2 before Silsbee controlled the shootout and came away with a 5-3 victory.

Lumberton got on the board first with a goal from 15 yards out at the 15:22 mark of the first half.

Silsbee took no time to tie the game at the 11:07 mark when Brandon Morales squeezed in a 18-yard kick on a pass from Karl Elers.

A minute later, Lumberton managed to regain the lead 2-1 on a 20-yard strike that found the back of the net for the Raiders.

Eight minutes in the second half, Moise Martinez sent a cross that bounced off of several players before rolling into the net for the 2-2 tie for Silsbee.

Still tied at the end of regulation, both teams played two 10-minute overtime periods but still remained tied.
The tiebreaker came down to a shootout.

Cristival Aboytes kicked first for Silsbee and made the first goal to give Silsbee a 3-2 lead.

Silsbee goalie Crysel stopped Lumberton’s first attempt to leave Silsbee in the lead.

DJ Foster missed the next attempt for Silsbee and Crysel once again stopped Lumberton cold.

Elers then his a shot in the upper 90 for a goal but Lumberton made its first goal in the shootout to bring the score 4-3.

Moises Martinez hit a shot at the back of the net for the eventual winning goal for Silsbee.
Crysel denied the Raiders its final chance at staying alive to preserve the win for Silsbee.

It was the first time in 15 years that the Silsbee boys had defeated Lumberton.
