Jessica Ann Scates
A Silsbee woman was caught by Hardin County Sheriff’s Department after a warrant was issued for her arrest in connection with the beating of a 78-year old woman.
Jessica Scates, 23, was being sought by authorities after an alleged assault on Ruby Cravey on the 11000 block of Rusty Eddings Road in Silsbee.
According to Hardin County Sheriff Ed Cain, deputies responded to a call around 9 a.m. on Sunday after a woman said she had been assaulted.
Cain said Deputies arrived and found Cravey had allegedly been beaten with a walking cane.
According to a report, Cravey told authorities that a woman went to Cravey’s residence on Saturday night for assistance in a domestic dispute and needed a place to stay for the night. Cravey allegedly told authorities that the woman assured her she was related to a Hardin County Constable.
Some time during the night, Cravey was allegedly beaten with a cane that authorities said belonged to her, Cain said.
The report indicates that Cravey suffered multiple injuries and was “left for dead” after she passed out, according to Cain.
Scates was arrested by Hardin County deputies on Old Spurger Highway after she was allegedly spotted riding in a vehicle on Monday afternoon.
She was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked into Hardin County Jail on Monday.
Cravey remains in intensive care at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, but is beginning to talk.
An investigation continues.
