One of my friends and I were discussing the election and the state of our nation. The friend, who happened to be black, and I shared a lot of common concerns. Both of us fear for our country because we both realize that our country cannot continue spending far more dollars than it takes in.
President Obama has been the biggest contributor to the deficit of any president that we have ever had but nearly all the presidents of the past 50 years have shared the common willingness to spend more than they take in.
My black friend, who remains nameless, realized this but he was concerned about supporting a group that would drive us into bankruptcy to a degree that this administration has. Though he never stated it, I felt he has a desire to support Obama, who happens to be the first black president that this country has had.
The country faces a lot of problems. Throughout the past four years, the unemployment rate has ranged between eight and 10 percent, and in reality, if you add people who have given up on finding work, and people who have been placed on disability roles because their unemployment benefits have run out, the number of unemployed people who should be on the work force probably becomes 20 to 25 percent. That number is unacceptable and our country cannot survive with that many people out of work.
Today, 49 million people in America receive government subsidies for food. Needless to say we cannot afford to have that many people on food subsidies.
Our foreign policy was supposed to be a strong point for this administration. I don't know how anyone came to that conclusion because except for about 10 years, the administration's background was in the area of community organization. This has little to do with foreign policy. Our foreign policy has never been as screwed up as it is today. We have people rioting, burning our embassies in the very countries that this administration has attempted to save.
I never listen to Rush Lembaugh, but I do agree with something he was credited with saying. It went something like this – "Our country can survive four more years of President Obama, but it cannot afford four more years with an electorate that would vote for someone like Obama."
More than ever, I now fear for our country's future. Thomas Jefferson reportedly stated that "Democracy will fail when the masses figure out they can vote themselves a pay raise."
Today nearly half the people in this country draw their wages from the government, so we are fast approaching the day that Jefferson spoke about. |
