Jordan Holmes slams home two points during the Tigers 100-53 win over Buna on Friday.

The Silsbee Tigers ran their season record to 20-7 with a pair of wins over Buna 100-53 and Orangefield 64-45.

The two wins allowed the Tigers to maintain their unbeaten record in district play at 8-0 and gave them a two game lead over West Orange Stark and a 2-1/2 game lead over Hardin-Jefferson with only four district games left on the schedule. Two of those games are against WOS and Hardin-Jefferson.

On Friday, the Tigers put a 2013 version of Phi Slamma Jamma on the court. The team recorded or attempted numerous dunks as they overpowered the Cougars by a 100-53 score.

Silsbee led in this game 25-9 at the end of the first quarter. Jordan Holmes hit a pair of three’s and scored 10 in the opening period to get the Tigers clicking.

His teammate Chris Elam hit for five in the first period and then came back to score 12 in the second period. He had 17 at the half and went on to take scoring honors in the game with 29 points.

Silsbee hit for 54 in the first half and led 54-24 the half.

After the intermission, Buna managed a short rally in the third quarter. They cut the Tigers 30 point lead to 20 and then the Tigers found their rhythm and began to stretch the lead.

Silsbee led 73-39 at the end of three periods.

The Tigers went on to outscore Buna 27-14 in the fourth period.

“I thought defensively we played a lot better than we did at their place,” Coach Joe Sigler stated. “We pushed the ball a lot better. We now have a target on our backs and must prepare for those shooting at us. We must play better and step our game up.”

In addition to Elams 29 points, Holmes had a big game with 21. DaVaughn Thomas was in double figures with 11 points.

Other Tigers who scored included Dante Wilson with five, Kendrick Scott with three, Eric Wallace with four, Ladavian Barnes with four, Yancy Brydson with four, Jacob Dobbins with two, Patrick Reed with seven, Nathan Scott with two and Zayon Jackson with eight.

Buna was led by Kresten Richardson with 12 points. Tyler Edwards was in double figures with 10 points. Other

Cougars who scored included Jonah Jacks with nine, Kolton Clark with eight, C. Cleveland with five, G. Pallerit with two, L. Sammons with four, and L. Peeck with two.

Tuesday the Tigers dropped Orangefield by a 64-45 score.

The Tigers led in this game 14-8 at the end of the first quarter. Orangefield came back to outscore the Tigers 15-11 in the second period. This narrowed the Tigers lead at the half to 25-23.

After the intermission, Silsbee began to take control of the game and to stretch its lead. The Tigers outscored the Bobcats 18-10 in the third period.

Silsbee went into the fourth period leading 43-33 and Jordan Holmes took control of the game. The powerful forward hit three 3-point baskets and scored 11 points in the period. Silsbee outscored the Bobcats 21-12 in the fourth period.

Holmes took scoring honors in the game with 24 points. Two other Tigers Chris Elam and DaVaughn Thomas finished in double figures with 11 points each.

Other Tigers who scored included Kendrick Scott, and Dante Wilson with three each, Jake Dobbins and Patrick Reed each with two points, and Zayon Jackson with seven points.
Angelle led Orangefield with 14 points.

The Tigers played Bridge City on Jan. 29. They will play a non conference game against Legacy on Friday and then the Tigers will host Hamshire-Fannett on Feb. 5.
