The Silsbee Tigers used an aggressive, pressing defense to totally dominate Bridge City on Friday.

The Tigers defense was the key to the game. They jumped ahead 20-5 in the first quarter when Kelton Gaines hit a three and scored five points and Jordan Holmes dropped in another three and added seven more.

The domination continued in the second quarter when the Tigers outscored their opponents 23-4 to lead 43-9 at the half. Holmes had nine in the second period.

The third quarter was a little better for Bridge City but not much. Silsbee outscored the Cardinals 22-8 in the third period.

Patrick Reed who has been coming off the bench to provide a scoring punch had six in the second period and five in the third.

The reality of the situation is that Coach Sigler uses a player rotation that has the second team playing about as much as the first unit.

The Cardinals had their best quarter in the fourth period. They hit for 19 points but Silsbee still managed to outscore them by a 23-19 margin.

Reed went on to finish in double figures with 17 points.

Scoring honors in the game went to Holmes who hit for 21 in the 88-36 blowout.

Kelton Gaines who has been coming alive in recent games hit for 18 points.

Other Tigers who scored included Zayon Jackson with 8, Danti Wilason with 2, Chris Elam with 8, Ladavian Barnes 4, Yancy Brydson 4, Jacob Dobbins 2, and Arthur Turner 4.

Tuesday the Tigers travelled to Orangefield and claimed a 77-54 victory.  Silsbee jumped ahead 19-6 in the first quarter of this game and led 37-18 at the half.

After the intermission Gaines found the range and hit for three long range three-pointers. He scored 14 in the period and Silsbee upped its lead to 57-31.

Orangefield outscored them 23-20 in the fourth period.

Silsbee actually had five players in double figures in this game. Holmes who had four three-pointers in the game took scoring honors with 22 points. Wilson and Gaines had 20 points each and Reed finished the game with 10 points.

Brydson was the only other player to score. He finished the game with three points.

Silsbee had 23 two-point field goals and eight three’s. They made 7 of 11 free throws. Orangefield had only 11 two-point baskets and they made six three’s. The Bobcats made 14 of 19 free throws.

This week the Tigers will play at West Orange Stark on Friday and they will host Hamshire Fannett  on Tuesday .

They started the second round of District play on January 31 at Hardin Jefferson.
