A beautiful young lady came into my office Friday. She's about 5-5 and at most maybe 105-110 pounds. The kind of good looking lady that every young man dreams about. When I walked in, she quickly said. "Hey look my bellies as big as yours".
We compared them for a few minutes. They were of similar design but I still think mine was bigger.
Debbie was laughing at us and asked. "Just how far along are you anyway?." The girl responded just over 20 weeks.
This immediately caught my attention to the circus going on in Austin.
I said, "Why don't you just go out and kill that thing. That's what the demonstrators are promoting in Austin."
This threw her into some sort of fit. She said when you get a sonogram it (she apparently doesn't know whether it is a he or she) crosses its arms and waves them around.
I know I have three children myself. When babies are in the womb they respond to touch. If you push on them they kick back. It is my view that they are living. The only difference is that they are defenseless.
To murder them through late abortion is not really much different than murdering a three month old. Both of them are essentially defensiveless.
My editor has a grandson who is a newborn. I don't think he would consider murdering that child…. and yet that child is only a few months older after birth than the unborn babies that the demonstrators are wanting to have the right to abort.
One of my children has adopted a baby that is now 10 weeks old.
The baby holds those big eyes wide open and looks at you to get attention. He can think…. he demands that attention and if you don't give it to him he screams about it.
This baby is one of number that have been adopted by our family and close friends. I have an adopted sister. My parents love her as much as they do me and probably more because she always hangs close and I have tended to spread my wings.
My business associate on the farm was a single man until he was past 50. In 1990 while running for congress he stated that abortion was not a concern of his. That might have been the single thing that caused him to lose that election by less than half a percent.
A little later he married and the couple went on to adopt first three children. Then they added a fourth and later a pair of twins to reach the total of six.
Now he is about 70 and still has three kids in college, one out and two that are about 12 years old.
There has been some problems along the way. A few disappointments and yes a whole lot of joy.
I married into a family that you had to turn your head away when you walked into the bedroom or the woman would get pregnant. So I always have had children around.
Still at times, in the past I've thought about adopting children. Now I'm just too old.
When you pin even the most ardent promoters of abortion down, abortion is all right until they have to pin a name and face to it. Then they seem to lose some of their enthusiasm.
The law that is proposed in Austin deals with unborn babies who are 20 weeks past conception.
They always talk about the rare cases where the teenage girl was raped or lived in sad poor conditions.
If a young girl had been raped lived in the worst of conditions she has had twenty weeks… yes five months to make up her mind and do something prior to the time this law would have a bearing.
Call me a rich old white man if you like but I've lived. I've done everything from teach Sunday school, coach little league, work with Boy Scouts, to defend a little girl who adopted into our family from another race, Korean.
Today she is over 50 years old, 4-10 and 90 pounds. She is obviously different than the rest of our family.
She still may be the thing that puts the biggest smile on my aging parents face when she walks into the room.
