A private memorial service for Ed L. Sargent, Jr., age 89, of Temple was at 10 a.m. Monday, April 7 at The Temple Meridian with Jordan Hubbard presiding. Inurnment will be in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killen at a later time. Mr. Sargent died April 2, 2014 in Temple. He was bornMay 2, 1924 to Eddie Lee and Ona Sargent in Silsbee, TX. He attended school in Silsbee and graduated from Texas A&M in 1949. Mr. Sargent served in the United States Army during WWII. He retired from Dow Chemical in Russellville, Arkansas. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Russellville and active in Rotary International. Survivors include his wife, Betty of Temple; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Hamp Kennedy; son and daughterin-law, Ben and Stephanie Sargent; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or First United Methodist Church of Russellville, Arkansas.
