Bus crash scares witnesses

Many witnesses and authorities received a scare on Wednesday afternoon after a compact car slammed into a Silsbee ISD school bus near the Tyler County line.

Officials arrived to find a Toyota Prius crashed into the right side of a school bus off of the roadway at Highway 92 and the Tyler County line at around 4:40 p.m.

Luckily, when officials arrived they, found all students had been dropped off prior to the accident.

DPS officials said that the driver of the Prius attempted to pass the school bus on the shoulder, when the driver of the bus was attempting a right turn onto private property.

Doyle Swarthowt Jr., of Fred, was cited for illegal pass to the right. Arthur McInnis of Silsbee was the driver of the bus.

Silsbee ISD Supt. Richard Bain received the news and rushed to the scene.

Both drivers were not injured.
