Motorcycle rider remains hospitalized

A Silsbee man suffered serious injuries when he was struck by an SUV while traveling on a motorcycle on Business 96 in Silsbee on Friday.

Jackie Carter, 65, was airlifted to a Beaumont hospital after he was thrown from a 2007 Honda motorcycle as a result of the crash, while traveling north on Business 96 at the intersection of Durdin Street at 5:38 p.m.

According to a police report, A 2003 Ford Excursion was traveling south on Business 96, attempting to make an unprotected left turn onto Durdin. The SUV struck the motorcycle. J.C. Dawson, 71, was the driver of the SUV.

Carter was thrown 15 feet from the initial impact, causing serious injuries. He remains hospitalized in ICU.

Dawson, from Silsbee, was cited for failure to yield right-of-way.
