Silsbee chamber hosts first annual canoe, kayak race

By Daniel Elizondo

If you are into canoeing or kayaking on Village Creek, then this upcoming contest may be of interest to you.

But first you have to get that paddle savviness down if you intend to win.

Silsbee Chamber of Commerce is hosting its first annual Village Creek Classic Canoe and Kayak Race on Village Creek on Saturday, Aug. 20.

There will be two categories in the race including a competitive timed race, and a non-timed creek cleanup challenge.

The first to finish in the timed race will be the winner, and the first to finish the creek cleanup with the most trash will be the winner.

The race will begin at Texas 327 and end at Baby Galvez in Silsbee.

Parking will be available at First Baptist Church in Silsbee and will include a shuttle.

Applications will be available by request along with an entry fee per person.

The amount of the fee includes lunch, and a t-shirt for the first 100 registrants.

Remember, there is a limited number of canoes and kayaks so first priority will be taken.

All entry forms must be submitted by Aug. 12.
