A recent researcher request for nematode core dirt samples sent me to an obscure road leading to the north Canyonlands Unit of the Big Thicket National Preserve. As I carefully wound my way down a road that wasn’t much wider or developed than an ATV path, I came upon a makeshift bridge constructed of 4 railroad ties and sandbags. The railroad ties were set apart; two on one side and two on the other with a gap in between.
