Kountze High School robotics team may be wild card at World’s

By Meagan Moore

Kountze High School robotics team, the Dapper Dans, competed in the VEX Robotics Competition, which is a series of events designed to test student ingenuity and adaptability through a tournament season.

According to Zack Hansel, coach and overseer for the KHS team, each year the new objectives lead to different set of design challenges. This year, the goal was to make a robot that could gather large foam jacks, or stars, and cube pillow and toss them over a fence that is dividing one team’s side from another faster than the opposing team.

There were seasonal games where the Dapper Dans were paired with and against random robots to determine which seed the team ended up getting, a draft phase where they built their team out of the robots available, and elimination playoffs to determine the tournament champion.
