Hwy. 418 in front of Alferd’s Laundry was closed for approximately four hours on Monday, April 10 as emergency crews tried to right a fallen tanker truck.

At about 8:17 a.m. Eddie Greer, 60, of Tyler, was driving a 2016 Peterbilt truck pulling a tank full of isopentane, an extremely volatile and flammable liquid at room temperature and pressure.

According to police reports, the tanker was traveling westbound towards Kountze when Greer failed to maintain his speed and left the roadway, going off onto the soft shoulder. When the driver tried to correct, the heavy truck slipped and fell over onto its passenger side.
