Raney receives national public servant award from VFW

Long-time Silsbee resident Fred Raney on Saturday was announced as recipient of the National Public Servant Award from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of United States for his many years of service to the Silsbee Fire Department.

The VFW Post 1514 in Village Mills sent out information to the local fire departments and chiefs, and someone within the department nominates a public servant. Fred Raney, the then assistant chief, chaplain and PIO at Silsbee Fire Department, was named the VFW Department of Texas’s Firefighter recipient of the VFW 1514 Post on Dec. 13, 2016.
