MGA to host 50th Invitational Tournament

A group of men gathered to launch a golf association in the late 1960’s to raise money for upkeep of the greens and fairways at Silsbee Country Club.

The Men’s Golf Association was formed on March 19, 1968, and three months later, they held their first golf tournament. The tournament has grown into a prestigious event, attracting professionals and top amateurs.

This year the tournament turns 50.

The 50th MGA Invitational tees off Thursday with the skins game. This is more than just any ole three-day tournament.

“We have a four-day event,” said tournament director Mike Sanchez. “It’s a competitive tournament, but it’s a festive atmosphere that’s almost like a reunion because so many people keep coming back.”
