Blood drive in memory of Hinkie is successful

Forty-seven units of blood were collected from 43 donors during the Sept. 14 blood drive at the Silsbee Volunteer Fire Department headquarters, according to Denise Duke, donor recruit for LifeShare Blood Centers.

The blood drive was in memory of late Assistant Chief Jay Hinkie, who was killed in the line of duty on Aug. 2. He worked for SVFD for 26 years as a firefighter.
