Local schools see gains, losses because of Harvey

Schools throughout Hardin County have reported gains and losses in the number of students enrolled in Silsbee, Lumberton, Kountze and Evadale due to displacement by Tropical Storm Harvey.

Silsbee ISD Superintendent Richard Bain said Silsbee has seen its highest enrollment “in years” at 2,856.

He said 34 students have been enrolled at Silsbee ISD due to displacement caused by Tropical Storm Harvey, but that Silsbee schools also lost a number of enrollees, making losses and gains attributable to Harvey a “wash.”
