Roger Wayne Cooper, Ph.D., 68, of Lumberton, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. Funeral service was Friday, Oct. 27 at St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Beaumont with burial following at St. Michael Cemetery in Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary, also in Beaumont. Born in Yankton, South Dakota and raised in Springfield, South Dakota, he taught geology for over 30 years at Lamar University in Beaumont. He also consulted and was a significant contributor to the understanding of the geology of the Stillwater Complex in Montana, the Duluth Complex in Minnesota, and to Big Bend National Park in Texas. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Dee Ann Cooper of Lumberton; and his daughter, Robin Cooper of Cheyenne, Wyoming.
