Community leaders to show Silsbee’s strength after tragedies

The community of Silsbee and surrounding areas have been scarred by a series of tragedies over the last several months, and local community leaders say they’re hoping to provide healing with Nov. 29’s “Silsbee Strong Celebration,” 6 p.m. at the Kirby Memorial Stadium.

Volunteer Fire Chief Jay Hinkie was hit by a car and killed responding to the scene of an accident on Aug. 2. Then Tropical Storm Harvey’s floodwaters devastated Hardin County throughout September, displacing families, destroying thousands of homes, and ultimately causing the closure of local landmarks Adventure Kingdom and the Pines Theater.
