Carthage ends Tigers’ season with 64-36 pounding

LUFKIN — The Silsbee Tigers saw their season come to an end as the defending state champions and No. 1 team, Carthage Bulldogs, with a 64- 36 loss in the UIL Class 4A Division 1 Region 3 semi-finals on Dec. 1 at Abe Martin Stadium.

Carthage, who has won 23 straight, needed three plays in less than a minute to score their first touchdown when Gunner Capps hit Dee Bowen for a 30-yard TD pass.

Silsbee (7-5) immediately responded when Jacob Collins connected with speedster Kalon Barnes for a 65-yard TD pass. Eric Martin’s point after kick tied the game, 7-7.
