LUMBERTON — Dr. Gerald Chandler was approved unanimously as the new superintendent for Lumberton ISD during the April 5 school board meeting held in the Performing Arts Center.

Last month, Chandler was named as the lone finalist on March 8 after Dr. Jeremy Glenn, superintendent of Waxahachie ISD, withdrew his name on March 5. Glenn was announced as the finalist on March 1.

Chandler, who was named acting superintendent in January, has been with the LISD for 15 years and served as assistant superintendent since 2012. He was named interim superintendent after James Valastro announced his retirement on Aug. 31, 2017.
