A.C. “Plug” Weitzel Jr., 82, of Lumberton, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018. Funeral service was Friday, May 11 at Triumph Church in Beaumont with burial following at China Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary. Born in Beaumont, he was a United Staes Air Force veteran and was employed for over 35 years as a truck driver, retiring from Central Freight Lines. He served with the TDCJ Prison Ministry, at the Mark Stiles Prison for 19 years. In 2011, he was the recipient of the TDCJ Volunteer of the Year Award. He also ministered to incarcerated youth through the Epiphany Texas Youth Commission Ministries of Texas in Beaumont. Survivors include his wife, Mary Rush Weitzel of Lumberton; daughters, Wendy Pierce and husband Kenny of Lumberton, Terri Peirce and husband Jack of Houston and Bonnie Trahan and husband David of China; sons, Teddy Weitzel and wife Deanna of Lumberton and Happy Weitzel and wife Jennifer of Houston; brother, Harold Weitzel; and 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
