Music couple making Silsbee home

An out-of-state couple is making their way to Silsbee – music note by music note, as they are getting ready to settle down and start their lives in Southeast Texas.

Monte Gaylord and Tawni Morris will be performing at Silsbee Farmer’s Market and Trade Day on Saturday, Aug  19. They also most recently performed at the LIFT summer performance at the high school.

Church celebrating 117 years

The St. Beulah Baptist Church of Silsbee is one of the oldest assemblies of God in Hardin County.

It was founded in 1900 by the late Rev. A. C. Cobbs. A small group of people had their church meetings under a brush harbor, which is now known as Bonner Street in Silsbee.

Annual Piney Woods Artist Competition deadline is Aug. 5

From Aug. 9 through Aug. 31, the Ice House Museum & Cultural Center will be exhibiting their annual Piney Woods Artist Competition entries. The contest invites local amateur artists to not only show off their creations to the town, but also allows them to compete for prizes.

The Piney Woods Artist Competition has been an annual celebration of creativity in Silsbee since 2002. The event provides an opportunity for artists of all skill levels and styles to be a part of a competitive exhibition, and have their work displayed in a gallery setting. A large variety of talent is often involved in the competition and choosing the winner is a difficult task.

Josh Ward to play Honky Tonk Texas

Music has the ability to have a huge impact on someone’s life. It can get someone out of a rough patch, or even help celebrate good times. Country musician Josh Ward has turned his passion for music into his career. Ward is currently on tour and Saturday, Aug. 12 he will be playing at Honky Tonk Texas.

Ward is from Montgomery, Texas. For almost all of his life, music has been around him. When he was four years old Ward started singing in his church choir.

KNC administrator to go on a new journey

The residents, families, and employees of Kountze Nursing Center gathered Tuesday to honor the retirement of their beloved administrator Becky Larocca.

Mrs. Larocca addressed those present by saying, “This is a happy occurrence, not sad. Life is full of journies. This is my journey… to be here with you. I love each of you.”

Class of 1977 to celebrate 40 years

It's getting closer. Just eight weeks until Homecoming - September 29, 2017. It will be the class of 1977’s 40th Class Reunion!!! Calling all classmates to get together, and make this the best reunion yet.Traditionally, the class of 1977 has participated in as many homecoming activities as they can. Bring the address for all classmates!

The reunions shirt orders are due to Ethel Means Rogers by July 31, 2017. For more info, join their Facebook Group Silsbee High School Class of 1977. They have several planning meetings left.

The Texas State Organizaton of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International presented a Media Award to the Silsbee Bee in recognition of excellence in coverage of local chapter news.

The Local chapter, Mu Upsilon nominated the paper to be recognized and honored at the Texas State Convention.
