Local Trustee Participates in Leadership Program

Janis Holt, trustee from Silsbee ISD joined 34 other school board members from across Texas November 17-19 at the second session of the Leadership TASB class of 2017. Selected by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), the group is participating in a yearlong education leadership study program.

McCarty celebrates 90th birthday

Barbara McCarty of Silsbee, recently celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends. The celebration began with Mass at St. Mark Catholic Church in Silsbee with a dinner in the Parish Hall afterwards.

Christian Women’s Job Corps of Southeast Texas (CWJC) celebrated with its graduates from the Fall Session on Wednesday, November 16 at the First Baptist Church Jones Center.
 
The seven graduates were Sandra Shirley, Mindi Blanchard, Sarah Herbert, Carrie Brown, Myriam Mancha, Kathy Ashcroft, and Cherrlyn Farnsworth.

Chambers county is fastest growing county in SE Texas

The Texas Demographic Center at the University of Texas San Antonio released population estimates for the state of Texas this week. Hardin County had a population of 54,635 in 2010 and it has grown by 3,,301 to 57,936 in 2016. This is a population growth of 6.0% which makes it the second fastest growing county in the southeast part of the state.

Agnes Hensley Brazeal has 101st birthday

Agnes Hensley Brazeal turned 101 years old on Nov. 18 She was born way, way back in 1915 in Mexia, Texas, when the cost of living was a lot less than it is today. In 1915, a sirloin steak was 18¢ per pound, the local newspaper cost you 1¢, your movie ticket was only 7¢ and a four room apartment was the high price of $12 a month.
