Silsbee man confesses to theft

Both the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department and Silsbee Police Department were able to solve several burglary and theft cases after the arrest of one man from Silsbee. Daniel Paul Elmore, 35, had already been booked into the Hardin County jail on other theft charges out of Silsbee when Sgt. Robert Peden with the Silsbee PD went to interrogate Elmore.

Lumberton

There were no injuries after a fire erupted in a mobile home off of Dogwood Street east of Lumberton on Sunday at around 1 p.m. It took crews an hour to contain the blaze with the mutual aid help of Silsbee Fire Department. Lumberton investigators are still determining the cause of the blaze.

“Red” recognized

Hardin County commissioners adopted a resolution recognizing L.W. “Red” Cooper for 24 years of service as Precinct 5 constable in the county. Cooper ran for re-election in November and lost to Carlos Montalvo, ending his tenure. He continues to serve as bailiff for the 356th District Court under the honorable Steve Thomas. Last week, Hardin County commissioner LW Cooper Jr. and son of “Red” read the resolution to commissioners court.

MLK Day Parade

Hundreds gathered for the annual MLK Day Parde on Monday through Silsbee. Several marched the streets in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. in a parade that featured parade marshalls Bro. Richard and Sis. Odessa Hawkins.

Man trapped in logging truck crash

One person was seriously injured in a one vehicle accident on Monday morning at approximately 9:01 a.m. A log truck driven by Roy Pierson, of Livingston, was driving east bound about two miles east of the Highway 69 interchange on Hwy. 327 when the driver reached to pick something up.

New police chief takes over

After months of searching and interviewing potential candidates, the City of Silsbee chose its newest chief, who was officially sworn-in on Monday to begin immediately. Retired and former Little Elm chief Waylan Rhodes becomes the replacement for Mark Davis, who served as chief for five years before being elected as the sheriff of Hardin County

MLK Day festivities on Monday

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2017 will be held on Monday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. This year, the theme is, “Preparatory: Praying, Parenting, and Policing.” The route begins at Waldo Park, travels south down Hwy. 96, and turns east on 327 ending at Laura Reeves Primary School. Clergy, parents, and police officers will be honored during the celebration. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee is proud to honor Parade Marshals Bro. Richard and Sis. Odessa Hawkins.

The Cowboy GM-Dodge complex on the Highway 96 bypass in Silsbee has taken a giant turn that brings it back closer to its roots and more into the standing of a homeowned business. The business has pretty much always been operated as a home owned business but for the past 12 years, it had investors from the outside.

It’s officially official

It was a long road for Mark Davis having run the grueling course of election to become the next sheriff of Hardin County. Davis was officially sworn in on Sunday at the Hardin County courthouse after an extensive battle for the position that led to a run-off between he and Beaumont police officer Bryan Skinner.
