Five injured in crash near Silsbee

Five people were injured in a crash on FM 418 west of the Silsbee city limits on Tuesday, Dec. 27. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2007 Pontiac Vibe was traveling westbound on the roadway and attempted a Uturn after traveling onto the shoulder.

Silsbee man fatally injured

The driver of a motorcycle was killed as a result of a head-on crash on Texas 327 near Village Creek at around 6 p.m. on Thursday. Texas Department of Public Safety officials reported the multiple vehicle crash near Clearlake Road west of Village Creek.

Bicyclist Injured

A Silsbee man was injured after the bicycle he was riding on was struck by a vehicle on Business 96 in front of Brookshire Brothers around 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Careers end for Cain and Stephens

The Hardin County courthouse will be without two of its longest standing elected officials on Jan. 1, 2017 after the retirement of both were announced prior to March primaries. Sheriff Ed Cain and Tax Assessor-Collector Shirley Stephens made one last appearance in front of commissioners court on Tuesday after two resolutions were passed in honor of the two.

Three families have a good Christmas

Three Silsbee families were given the Christmas of a lifetime when things weren’t looking the brightest this year. Thanks to the quick thinking of Brittany Tatum and Kim Hyatt at Silsbee Walmart, the two employees did some research and decided to begin a Shop With A Cop fundraiser at the store.

Fire damages Silsbee home

Firemen were alerted to a situation at 325 Fourth Street in Silsbee where smoke was rising from the eve of a home. They responded quickly and were able to extinguish the fire before extensive damage took place. Fire chief Robin Jones stated that the fire was largely contained in the area of the front bedroom and the attic.

EDC director resigns

The Silsbee Economic Development Corporation has taken another blow after Director Jacquetta Walker submitted a resignation on Monday during a regularly scheduled meeting. The Silsbee EDC board of directors grew solemn after the announcement of the resignation by Walker who had been at the position for a little over a year.

Truck plows into vacant mobile home

A Silsbee man suffered minor injuries on Tuesday evening after the truck he was traveling in left the roadway and crashed into a vacant mobile home around 8:30 p.m.

Greyson Todd Smith, 18, was driving a 2014 Toyota Tacoma westbound on Old Spurger Highway in Silsbee east of FM 92, and police reported that the vehicle left the roadway before striking a utility pole.

After hitting the pole, the truck continued and collided into a vacant mobile home, police said.

Smith was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont suffering from minor injuries.

Hardin County Sheriff Ed Cain waves to parade viewers on Saturday night during the Silsbee Lighted Christmas Parade. Cain was named the honorary parade marshal this year after announcing his retirement effective on Dec. 31.
