Theme: “The Courage of a Soldier”

A reception will immediately follow the program for the veterans and guests.

Big names coming to Boys and Girls Club dinner

Mark Henry and Vince Young among those as special guests at the annual Boys and Girls Club Dinner this Thursday

The Silsbee Boys and Girls Club will hold its annual Awards Dinner with featured guests Mark Henry, Vince Young and master strongman Dennis Rodgers.

The event will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Silsbee High School Cafeteria.

The event is better known as the Steak and Burger dinner where the kids eat steaks and the adults eat the burgers.

This year, the event is sponsored by Hyundai of Silsbee and Westrock of Evadale.

WWE, which is the employer of Mark Henry, has contributed a great deal to make the event a success. They have made available helium machines, decorations and many major contributions.

Henry is well known throughout the US and particularly Silsbee. He was a 1990 graduate of Silsbee High School and while in school, won an International PowerLifting Championship.

Election Day

Voters turned out in droves for Election Day 2016 fueled by a heated Presidential race. Hardin County saw record numbers in early voting. Republican nominee Donald Trump was elected President late Tuesday after the final tally of votes was returned.

Storage building destroyed in fire

There were no injuries after a fire broke out in a storage building that wascompletely destroyed behind a home in Silsbee.  Silsbee fire department responded to the call on Thursday around 2:45 p.m. after witnesses saw smoke and heard explosions coming from the building on Smith Road off of Hitchcock Road north of Silsbee.

Early voting continues

Voters are tabbing ballots by the records in Hardin County while early voting continues throughout the state. Hardin County early voting will last through Friday, Nov. 4 at the courthouse dome in Kountze including weekend voting on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29-30. Early voting at the courthouse including this weekend, is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
