Celebrating an Easter full of hope, promise

Children ar the Easte Egg at Kirby Memorial Stadium took their job seriously on Saturday, and their job was to find eggs full of surprises, which was not real hard to find. This child was hunting in the group of children who were out searching for the eggs within the age group for those two and under.

Chemical Emergency

Hwy. 418 in front of Alferd’s Laundry was closed for approximately four hours on Monday, April 10 as emergency crews tried to right a fallen tanker truck.

At about 8:17 a.m. Eddie Greer, 60, of Tyler, was driving a 2016 Peterbilt truck pulling a tank full of isopentane, an extremely volatile and flammable liquid at room temperature and pressure.

According to police reports, the tanker was traveling westbound towards Kountze when Greer failed to maintain his speed and left the roadway, going off onto the soft shoulder. When the driver tried to correct, the heavy truck slipped and fell over onto its passenger side.

Freeman’s rodeo dreams coming true

A Kountze teen is still going strong with his determination and skill to make it to the top of the rodeo world.

This year, Ross Freeman has decided to homeschool in order to focus more on achieving his long-term goals and dreams. Now he expects to have more time to work on his technique, endurance, and all around health.

School bus wreck sends 25 to hospital

Twenty-five people were transported to hospitals after a crash that involved a Beaumont Independent School Bus occurred on April 4 on U.S. Highway 69 in Lumberton.

Lumberton Police, Volunteer fire department, and EMS responded to the major crash involving three vehicles at 1:51 p.m. near West Walton Road.

Armed, Dangerous

An investigation is underway in a collaborative effort by the Silsbee Police Department, Lumberton Police Department, and Hardin County Sheriff’s Department after a robbery that occurred on Wednesday, March 29.

The collaboration of the agencies resulted in a quick arrest of two suspects believed to be responsible for multiple armed robberies in Hardin County.

Two-vehicle crash results in fatality

A two-vehicle accident five miles west of US 69 near Bon Well Loop on FM 421 resulted in a fatality.

At about 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, a 1996 Mercury passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on 421 when the vehicle’s front tire blew out, causing the vehicle to veer into the eastbound lane and collide head-on with a 2000 Acura passenger vehicle.

Silsbee woman convicted, then indicted for two separate crimes

A Silsbee woman went to trial last month on Tuesday, March 21 for possession of controlled substance for a crime committed approximately two years ago, and was also indicted on another charge for possession of controlled substance last month.

Sergeant Mark Vincent with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics unit worked both cases and arrested Dorothy Loraine Carter for both instances of possession of controlled substance. On January 5, 2015 at about 11:00 a.m., Vincent was assisting the then-Sgt. Charles Daigle with the HCSO to serve a seizure warrant on Bobby Lynn Carter for his residence and property on Covey Lane in Silsbee.

Driven by Safety

The Silsbee ISD Board of Trustees met Tuesday and approved a number of operational policies that affected the procedure that the school district uses to conduct business.

School attorney Tanner Hunt stated that most of the changes were not significant but they were recommended.

Fire on the back porch

Amanda Hatton awoke early Sunday to a fire on the back porch of her home. She got her children out of the home and called the fire department. Investigators found stored pool chemicals on the deck next to the house.

City Council sends EDC board packing

The Silsbee City Council met Monday and voted to recall all of the members of the Silsbee EDC board of directors and replace them with members of the Silsbee City Council.

The motion passed by a 4-2 vote with Gary Strahan, Sue Bard, Adalaide Balaban, and Jim Willis voting in favor of the motion and Thomas Tyler and Chris Barnes voting in opposition.

The vote was proceeded by presentations from a number of members of the audience, as well as council members.
