Garbage Blowing Smoke

Silsbee Fire Department officials tended to a fire in a garbage truck off of Texas 327 on Thursday at around 1:30 p.m. Witnesses noticed the back of the truck smoking and called 911 before the driver was aware.

Early voting begins Monday

Early voting begins on Monday for the much anticipated Presidential race, however, two positions are being contested locally on Hardin County ballots. Hardin County Precinct 1 Constable and Kountze ISD Trustee Place 5 are the only contested races for the November ballot. Republican Carlos Montalvo will face incumbent Democrat Red Cooper for Precinct 1 constable. Rick Drew will face Brian E. Williams for Kountze ISD Trustee place 5.

Hiring process begins for police chief

Silsbee city council members agreed on a panel to help reduce the amount of applicants for Silsbee Police Chief, discussed at a city council meeting on Monday evening. City Manager DeeAnn Zimmerman received 20 applications for the position, and the panel will sift through each to begin begin the process of interviews. Council members agreed to have Thomas Tyler, Chris Barnes, Gary Strahan and Adalaide Balaban on the panel.

A Lumberton woman shares her story as a breast cancer survivor and how her life changed

As Darla Eason of Lumberton recounted those dreadful days a year ago, hearing a doctors voice tell her she has cancer, her reaction was like anyone else – “How can this be?”

As a working woman, a loving wife and mother of two sons, her life was in jeopardy, and all she could think was the worst.

Darla wasn’t scheduled for a mammogram until April 2016, three years after her previous test, which was recommended by her physician.

However in September 2015, she began to have intuitive feelings that left her uneasy.

“We have all had those feelings,” she said. “Just those nagging feelings like something isn’t right. It was the most overwhelming feeling that I needed to go and have a mammogram.”

Silsbee Woman’s Club got a lesson on the importance of bees on Thursday, with a little added entertainment. Adalaide Balaban (from left) Kathy McBride and Margaret Underhill provided some insight on why society needs bees while adding some visual and comedic relief to keep the crowd buzzing. Silsbee Woman’s Club meets monthly.

One injured in FM92 crash

A 19-year-old Silsbee woman was transported to a Beaumont hospital as a result of a vehicle crash on FM 92 on Thursday, Oct. 6. According to DPS reports, Amy Gardner was driving a 2012 Ford Mustang northbound FM 92 when the vehicle collided with a 2016 Kentworth delivery truck at around 7:45 p.m.

Crash

Two people were transported to a hospital in Beaumont after a 3-vehicle crash on FM 418 in Silsbee near Brookwood on Sunday at around 9 p.m. The crash occurred near a Dollar General store involving a small pickup truck. Officers on the scene said the injuries were to a small child and an elderly man.
