Baytown Pastor Mark Willhoite knew he had a calling to begin a hospital ministry along with his wife Sherry. Willhoite has just opened a new church in the area, and the agreement was to further the spread of love by helping those at the hospital.

Hardin County Health Inspections for September

Love Fellowship Church/Daycare – 940 S. 12th Street, Silsbee - clean and organized, all specifications met – earned a perfect score of 100 

West Hardin ISD – 39227 Hwy 105, Saratoga – clean and organized, had a few boxes on the floor in two areas – earned a score of 99 

Sour Lake Elementary – 1055 Hwy 326, Sour Lake - clean and organized, all specifications met – earned a perfect score of 100

Infrastructure topic in county economic development discussion

Community relations official Betty Russo of Texas Governor’s office economic development and tourism visited Hardin County last week to offer round-table discussions on pursuing development. Russo covers the Gulf Coast and East Texas Region, which encompasses 42 counties of Texas.

Cooling down those hot checks

Hardin County commissioners agreed to implement a fee in each department of the county after a large amount of returned checks have been accounted for since January. Commissioners voted unanimously to set a $25 fee to be charged by each department on all payments made by check that are returned by the bank.

Former Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Wilber “Butch” Cummings succumbed on Friday, Sept. 16. Cummings was instrumental in Hardin County, having served as JP for 20 years. He was 76 at the time of his death.

Incoming industry could spur growth

By the end of this year, the city of Kountze might expect some new jobs and growth as a business from Brazil is working on settling the paperwork and inspections in order to move into the old Paperboard Cores building behind Mama Jack’s restaurant. The company was previously named EcoBlock, but they are changing it to Athyorn.
