Crash claims elderly woman’s life

Five others transported to hospital for minor injuries

An elderly woman was fatally injured as a result of a crash on US 96 bypass at the intersection of Cooks Road in Silsbee on Thanksgiving Day.
 
Silsbee police reported that Thyra Hicks, 88, of Silsbee, was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Hospital following the crash that occurred at 3:58 p.m. on Thursday on the bypass.

Silsbee EDC approves grant requests

Silsbee Economic Development approved of two grants on Friday in a special called meeting to aid two businesses in Silsbee. Furnish It furniture store, located in Lumberton, was approved for a $100,000 grant by EDC board members, allowing the business to open future retail space in Silsbee. Furnish It recently purchased a 36,000 square foot building located at the corner of FM 92 and FM 418, currently used as storage for its products.

Missing elderly man found in creek bed

A missing Hardin County elderly man was found around 3:45 p.m. on Thursday next to a vehicle he was driving that was submerged in a creek. According to authorities on the scene, a Silver Alert was submitted on the man identified as 76- year-old David Lee Humphrey around 1:30 a.m. in Silsbee. His wife, Karen Humphrey, found him stuck in mud next to a 2005 Ford Mustang that drove off of Cooks Lake Road and down into a ravine in a creek.

One of Silsbee’s largest attractions is the Christmas Parade they host every year, with companies, organizations, and individuals putting time, effort, and money into creating impressive floats for all to enjoy. It helps bring people together from all over the surrounding area out to enjoy the lights and the holiday atmosphere. Each year, the Silsbee Fire department chooses a citizen of Silsbee to lead the annual Christmas Parade as the Grand Marshall.

Police confiscate loads of meth in bust

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Department confiscated a load of drugs including a large amount of methamphetamine on Wednesday, sources said. Authorities conducted a raid on a home off of FM 1122 on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at around 9 p.m. after a lengthy investigation into possible illegal activity occurring at the residence, police said.
