Many at Tiger Stadium were disappointed on several plays that saw football players from both Silsbee and Newton sliding for their lives on Friday, Sept. 2. For many skill players, footing was a problem, however, it is dually noted that the area has received an exorbitant amount of rain in the last several months.

The Hardin County Crime Victims’ Assistance Center is once again preparing for its annual Law Enforcement Officers Appreciation Dinner. The event was previously held in conjunction with the crime victims vigil held in the spring, however, due to its popularity, it is now a standalone event since 2008.

High school football is in full swing as Friday Night Lights officially kicked off last week. Silsbee suffered a season opening loss to Port Neches-Groves on Friday and was led by senior running back Calvin Tyler, who scored three TDs.

Evadale season opener changed

The Evadale Rebels season opener with Sugarland Lobos Prep has changed venues for Friday night.

The game was previously scheduled to be played in Sugarland, but has changed to Evadale Rebel Stadium.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Village Creek Classic a success

Lee Gomez won the kayak race at the First Annual Village Creek Classic on Saturday. Ryan LeBanc finished in second place. The first place team in the canoe race at the Village Creek Classic was the team of Joby Sessions and Chadrick Wilkerson. The second place team was the team of Jessica Boydine and David Newsum.
