FIRE DESTROYS HOME

Members of the Silsbee Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a home at the rear of the New Hope Church off of Texas 327 on Thursday evening. Members of the church reported that as they left the building, they discovered the fire on the adjacent property. The home was fully involved at the time firemen arrived on the scene.

Silsbee Chamber of Commerce

Silsbee ISD has officially opened up the school year with its annual “kick-off” breakfast held at Silsbee High School on Tuesday morning. All staff members of SISD were treated to a breakfast and later acknowledged with achievements throughout the 2015-16 school year. New staff members were also acknowledged and recognized. The Silsbee Chamber of Commerce was in attendance to present the 2016-17

Driver escapes serious injury

A Silsbee man is lucky to be alive after the vehicle he was driving went airborne striking a utility pole in Silsbee on Thursday at around 1:15 p.m. Robert Brooke, 67, was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after Silsbee Fire Rescue personnel extracted him from the crashed car. According to Silsbee police reports, Brooke was driving a 2010 Nissan Versa southbound on Lee Miller Road near Easy Street in Silsbee when the vehicle allegedly went off of the roadway, striking a culvert before going airborne about 20-feet in the air, snapping a utility pole in half. The vehicle landed up right under loose electrical power lines as Brooke remained trapped in the vehicle.

Senior still missing

A Silver Alert for a male 83 years of age from Hardin County was issued Saturday evening by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, and has been extended everyday since then with no luck. William “Harold” Gant, Sr. was last seen near the W.O.’s Friendly Tavern in Village Mills letting his dog out at about 3:30 p.m.
