Overlay project limits traffic lanes in Silsbee

By Daniel Elizondo

An overlay project is currently underway by Texas Dept. of Transportation in Silsbee along the stretch of Hwy. 96 bypass.

According to Public Information Officer Sarah Dupree of TxDOT, crews are battling weather in an attempt to overlay a seal-coat.

The project is from downtown Silsbee, and continues three miles south to the beginning of the 96 bypass.

The project consists of applying an oily base and topping with overlay material.

Dupree says the project should last no longer than 24 hours.

Crews are expected to begin on Friday, but weather may delay the project until Tuesday. The project will begin with north and south bound traffic down to one lane each while crews overlay the center of the roadway.
